How to Use Docs in Haven

What a Doc actually is
Docs are one of those things people stumble on and then use every day. A Doc is a page that lives inside Haven, and the good part is you don't have to write it yourself. Ask for one and it shows up already written. Come back next week and Haven will update it. Mention it on a call and it'll read the whole thing back to you.
They're good for the things you'd normally open a blank page for: notes, plans, a one-pager, meeting notes, a packing list that's outgrown being a list.
Find them at Apps → Docs, or go straight to app.hellohaven.ai/v3/do/docs.
The fastest way: just ask
Easiest thing is to just ask. Say what you want and Haven writes it, then tells you where it put it.
"Write a one-pager for the Portland trip."
"Update the travel doc with the new flight number."
"Read me the meeting notes doc."
"Save this answer to my Recipes doc."
"Make a new doc called Client Onboarding."
Works from Talk, by text, by email, or on a call. Want a brand new doc instead of an edit to an old one? Just say so.
And if you ever ask it to get rid of something, it checks with you first. Nothing disappears by accident.
Creating one yourself
Some days you'd rather just write it yourself:
Tap Apps in the left sidebar, then Docs under My Stuff. You'll see everything you've already got.
Tap + New Doc in the top right.
Give it a title, then click into the body and start typing.
Tap Done when you're done.
Changes save as you type. Done just closes the editor and takes you back to your docs.
Working on it with Haven
Once a doc's open, you've got help.
Ask Haven, right in the editor. The Ask Haven button sits in the toolbar, or press / or Cmd+K from wherever your cursor is. Good for drafting a section, tightening a paragraph, or turning rough notes into something readable.
Chat with doc. Tap Chat at the top of an open doc. Talk opens with the document attached, so Haven's working on that one and not guessing which you mean.
Bring a doc into a conversation. Tap + in Talk and attach it. Handy when you want it focused on one thing for a while.
Save an answer straight into a doc. When Haven tells you something worth keeping, open the ⋯ menu on that message and save it to a Doc in one tap.
Sharing a doc
You can hand a doc to someone else. Open one and tap Share.
Under People, enter someone's email and they get an invite.
Or under Anyone with link, copy the link and send it however you like.
They open it, accept, and can edit alongside you.
Changes show up for everyone right away, and little dots tell you who's in there with you. You'll get a notification when someone joins, and you can remove them from the same Share panel.
You can also share from chat: "Share the Portland trip doc with jordan@example.com."
Two things that trip people up. Sharing is not sending. If you only want a copy in your inbox, use the ⋯ menu → Send to me → Email to me. And if you'd rather not hear about every edit, go to your avatar → Settings → Preferences → Contact and set shared changes to Batched, Bell only, or Off.
Finding and organizing your docs
There's more on the Docs page than you'd think, and nothing you can break.
Folders keep related docs together. Use the Folder button in the top right.
Grid or list view toggles next to Filter, depending on whether you recognize your docs by their look or their name.
Sort and Filter narrow things down once you have a lot.
Favorites pins the ones you keep coming back to.
Search documents finds a doc by what's inside it, not just the title.
Print is there when you need it on paper.
The search icon at the top of Haven goes wider still. It searches your conversations, docs, lists, and notes together, so you don't have to remember where you put it.
Two things worth knowing
A Doc isn't a file. When Haven builds you a PDF or a Word doc, that's a download. A Doc is a living page you and Haven keep editing. Need something to attach to an email? Ask for the file. Need something you'll come back to and change? Use a Doc.
A Doc is your most reliable memory. Haven's memory can be patchy across text, email, and calls, so something you said in one place might not turn up in another. Easy fix: put anything it can't forget in a Doc, and call the doc by name when you ask. "Check the Portland trip doc" works from the app, by text, by email, and on a call. Small habit, and it saves a lot of "I already told you that."
